More than 5,000 customers lost power in San Francisco Sunday night after an unplanned outage affecting the Marina and Presidio neighborhoods, according to PG&E. The utility company did not disclose the cause, describing the event only as unplanned and saying crews were evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and carry out necessary repairs.
PG&E estimated power would be restored by approximately 3 a.m. Monday, April 27. The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management issued guidance on social media advising affected residents to keep refrigerator doors closed, noting that food can remain safe for four hours in a refrigerator, 24 hours in a half-full freezer, and 48 hours in a full freezer.
No further details about the cause or scope of the outage were released by PG&E as of Sunday night.
