Apple today released the first developer beta of iOS 17.4. There are some changes to the Apple Podcasts app. Most notably, Apple Podcasts now supports transcripts. Apple says a transcript will be automatically generated after an episode is published and will be available for listening in the Apple Podcasts app.
Apple says podcast transcripts will be available “immediately” after publishing the podcast episode itself. The company explains:
Apple automatically generates a transcript after a new episode is published. Your episode will be available to listen to immediately, and the transcript will be available shortly thereafter. It will take some time for your transcript to be processed. If dynamically inserted audio changes parts of your episode, Apple Podcasts won’t show you the segments of audio that have changed since the original transcription. Music lyrics also do not appear in the transcript.
On the Now Playing screen in the Apple Podcasts app, there’s a new Quote icon in the bottom toolbar that you can tap to see the transcript for that episode. “As the episode plays, each word is highlighted, making it easier to understand the content,” he says of Apple. You can tap anywhere in the live transcript to start listening from that specific point.
Tap and hold an episode[トランスクリプトを表示]You can also view a plain text version of the transcript without listening to the episode by selecting . There is also the ability to search for specific terms within each transcript.
Podcasters can learn more about transcripts and custom settings on the Apple Podcasts for Creators website.
Another small change to Apple Podcasts in iOS 17.4: Now Playing’s bottom navigation bar now has a new floating design similar to Apple Music.
