Bay College and the LSSU Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional Chapter collected coats for those in need in Delta County during the annual “Warm Coats for Warm Hearts” campaign.
The student-led campaign ran from Monday, December 4, 2023 to Monday, December 18, 2023. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the community, a total of 214 items were collected during the campaign. Collection boxes were placed at Elmer’s, Pat’s Foods IGA, Mobile (Gladstone), Integra First Federal Credit Union (Powers), and the University of the Bay.
“Every year, it warms my heart to see the community come together to donate. The businesses that placed our donation boxes and generously donated over 200 items to people in need. I want to thank the community for all that they do,” says Tregan Lippens, a Bay College student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications and a BPA member. “At BPA, we learn to dedicate our time, talent, and treasure to doing good for our community. It’s gratifying to see our community do the same.”
On December 18th, BPA students came together to sort all the donations. On Dec. 20, coats and other winter gear were distributed to the Salvation Army and Tri-County Safe Harbor. Low-income families at Sand Hill Townhouse received donations on January 10, 2024.
“BPA teaches us about self-improvement, but this event teaches us a lot about leadership, teamwork and community service,” Lippens said. “While we have grown through this campaign, we owe it to our community to achieve our goal of bringing warmth to people and hearts in need.”
