“What can I say, we are running out of energy,” Klopp said. “Of course, there’s nothing wrong with it now. I’ve known for a long time that I would have to publish it someday, but now I’m completely fine. I know I can’t do this job over and over again. I am.”

Reasons for Jurgen Klopp to leave Liverpool: Klopp’s statement
Klopp issued a video statement to Liverpool and held a lengthy question-and-answer session. Can be viewed and read here.
Here’s what he said in it main club release:
“At this moment, I understand that many people are shocked when they hear this word for the first time, but obviously I can explain it, or at least try to explain it.
“I love everything about this club. I love everything about this city. I love everything about the supporters. I love the team. I love the staff. I love everything. But I still don’t want to make this decision. The fact that I am making it shows that I am convinced that it is a decision that I have to make.
“What can I say, I just started to run out of energy. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with it now. I’ve known for a long time that I had to present it someday, but I’m totally fine with it now.” I know I can’t repeat it over and over again.
“After all the years we’ve been together, after all the time we’ve spent together, after everything we’ve been through together, my respect for you has grown, my love for you has grown. And the least I owe you is the truth – and that’s the truth.”
Why did manager Jurgen Klopp announce his retirement now? Manager Klopp rallies his troops
Manager Jurgen Klopp remained mum on why he was making the announcement now. He says it’s impossible to keep secrets otherwise he’ll make an announcement after the season ends, but as always he’s using his platform to turn this season into a new “us against the world” campaign. I’m even trying.
You have to say — it worked, and might be a treat again.
“There’s going to be a little bit of time, maybe the last game here or there, in other countries and other competitions. There’s plenty of time to do something like this. Now, actually. Let’s do it. The outside world wants to take advantage of this decision, laugh at it and sabotage us.
“We are Liverpool and we have gone through harder things together. And you have gone through harder things before me. Let’s make that a strength. It will be really great. Let’s squeeze everything out of this season so we can have a different smile when we look back in the future.”
What’s next for Jurgen Klopp?
For a long time, it was the German national team that was most often mentioned as his next destination. With Julian Nagelsmann now, there is no clear destination.
And Klopp wants a break, telling a press conference at 10am ET:
“Next year there will be no club, no country, no other English club, I can promise you that. Even if we don’t have something to eat, that won’t happen.”
