Bradley Cooper recalls taking Carey Mulligan to the emergency room: ‘She wasn’t okay at all’

Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan will never forget their first meeting.

The two had a very memorable encounter when Cooper, who co-starred with Mulligan in 2023’s “Maestro”, went to see her in a one-person show of Dennis Kelly’s “Girls & Boys” in 2018, and at that time they met on stage. It happened after I was injured.

“I went to see her backstage and she was face down… because in the middle of the play one of the sets hit her right on the top of the head,” Cooper said on Friday’s “The Graham Norton Show.” ” he recalled.

“When I came back, I was like, ‘Are you OK?'” he said.

“And she wasn’t okay at all,” he continued. “So we went to the emergency room.”

Ms Mulligan told host Graham Norton that the audience was not even aware of the accident as it happened during a planned stage lighting “blackout”. Still, she “kept going” and after finishing, she found herself in tears.

“I couldn’t stop crying and I thought I was really screwed,” she told Norton. “When you get a head injury, you’re like, ‘Oh, it’s over.’ And I was sobbing on the floor, and… somebody comes in and says, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry’ — bradley cooper [is here]”

Furthermore, she added: “So he came in, looked me in the eye and said, ‘You’re not okay.’ And we went to the emergency room.”

The duo was already well-known at the time, with Cooper directing 2018’s A Star Is Born and Mulligan receiving an Oscar nomination. This made their joint appearance at the hospital even stranger.

“The nurses were so happy,” Mulligan told Norton.

This isn’t the only time Cooper has helped his beloved actor. Brooke Shields recently revealed that her husband helped her through a “surreal” seizure incident in New York City last year.

Cooper was also present when Mulligan, who was pregnant, needed medical treatment on the set of “Maestro.” She was playing Felicia Montealegre, the wife of composer Leonard Bernstein, but when her doctor arrived, she comically forgot that she looked far beyond her age. was.

“I was pretty sick on set, so a doctor was called to give me antibiotics,” she told Norton.

“He wasn’t at all convinced when I told him I was 12 weeks pregnant,” Mulligan added, noting that she was “still wearing make-up to look like she’s 57.”

“I couldn’t wait to tell the makeup artists how great they were,” she joked.

On Tuesday, Mulligan and Cooper were both nominated for Oscars for “Maestro,” with Mulligan nominated for best actress and Cooper, who directed the film, nominated for best original screenplay, best actor and best picture. The award ceremony will be broadcast on ABC on March 10th.
