There’s a lot going on in Rangers land, including Tuesday’s disappointing loss in San Jose and Nick Bonino being waived against Filip Sittil upon his return to practice.

All of this is discussed in the latest episode of the podcast “Up in the Blue Seats” with Brian Boyle, Larry Brooks and Andrew Hertz.

But what stands out most about this episode is Boyle reflecting on the memorable 2018 All-Star Game weekend in Tampa.

Six years later, Boyle was thrilled when he recalled telling that story on his podcast.

He entered that season having learned of his cancer diagnosis in September 2017 after signing with the Devils that summer.

He had a great year and will be playing in the All-Star Game in place of injured Taylor Hall.

It was his first and only All-Star appearance. Before leaving, his son, who was only 2 years old, was in the ICU for surgery. He rarely traveled.

Listen or watch the pod below to hear the whole truly amazing story.

Up In The Blue Seats Podcast with Brian Boyle, Larry Brooks, and Andrew Hertz:

  • Nick Bonino waived: This is what the Rangers should have done. Filip Sitil’s return is nearing.
  • Inconsistent play: They have the talent on their roster to be great. How good is this Rangers team? Larry and Brian look back at his 2012 Rangers team.
  • Boyle’s All-Star Game experience: Looking back on his battle with cancer, his appearance in the All-Star Game, and the applause he received from fans. I got a lot of love from everyone around the league. Even though his son was in the ICU undergoing surgery, his wife encouraged him to go.
  • Boiling point: Boyle blames people’s dissatisfaction with the All-Star Game. Don’t complain about the All-Star Game! The kids love it.
