GCCA launches Riley Institute Diversity Leader Class Art Opens Doors Project

Greenville Center for Creative Arts and Riley Institute‘s Diversity Leaders Initiative Upstate Class 34 Launched in partnership art opens doorsAJ Wittenberg Elementary School, Sterling School, and Charles Townes Center participated in a one-day collaborative art project on January 17th.

Participant students were selected by their art teachers to participate in the GCCA project as a field trip. The contents of this day are as follows.

  • We paired students with peers from different schools for ice-breaking activities and explored their similarities and differences.
  • Join student teams in conversation about activities with GCCA’s Brandon Fellows, Kephira Davis, Christine Moore-Bonbright, and Elizabeth Wallace.
  • In collaboration with Brandon Fellows, we developed an artwork that paints on wooden doors to help people from different cultures and backgrounds share a common appreciation for art, and to explore the many ways in which art can open doors. Expressing.

GCCA will host a special “Art Opens Doors” exhibition and opening reception featuring doors painted by students and Brandon Fellows on February 2 from 6-9 p.m. After the opening reception, the exhibited works will be circulated to participating schools for public viewing.
