It’s been four years since GOAL magazine held a cover reveal event. That all changed Wednesday, as the magazine brought back its cover reveal party at Greensburg’s Westmoreland Museum of American Art, the subject of this month’s cover story.
GOAL editor Tawnya Rockwell said they wanted to bring it back to show their appreciation to the magazine’s contributors, friends and museum staff. In addition to the unveiling ceremony, guests were also able to explore the museum and enjoy snacks and refreshments from Sun Dawg Café.
Rockwell said she was excited for the museum to be a part of the magazine, and she wasn’t alone. Many GOAL staff members also agreed.
Director and CEO Dr. Silvia Filippini-Fantoni said 2024 is an important year for the museum, marking its 65th anniversary to the public, and the timing could not be better.
“Thank you to GOAL Magazine for this great opportunity and exposure,” she said Wednesday.
The excitement kicks off with an exhibit titled “65 Artists, 65 Years: A Commemorative Exhibition,” but Filippini-Fontoni said it’s more than just an exhibit. It’s going to be a journey. The exhibition period is from February 11th to September 8th.
Mr. Filippini-Fantoni said that in addition to the exhibition, 2024 will have a great program, including the repeat program “Art in Bloom”, which will be held from March 21 to 24. The program will feature floral designers who will create works inspired by the museum’s collection. For more information, check out the winter issue of GOAL Magazine and read all about it.
The cover story and cover title is “Every Artwork Has a Story to Tell: Exploring the Past, Present, and Future of the Westmoreland Art Museum.”
As for the cover photo, Ms. Rockwell said that during a tour of the museum, she was captivated by the work, which is on display in the Robertshaw Gallery, an attractive introduction space on the museum’s first floor. This work, entitled “Summer” from the “Four Seasons” series by Charles W. Gibbons III, is oil on canvas and was created between 1991 and 1992. The artist attended the unveiling party.
