Justin Timberlake believes that men don’t express emotions that make them feel weak.
The “SexyBack” singer, 42, made the confession while discussing her new single “Selfish.” She said the song was inspired by late Beatle John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy.” The song was about John Lennon’s jealous nature, which often caused trouble between him and Lennon. and her wife Yoko Ono.
Justin, who married actress Jessica Biel, 41, in 2012, spoke to Zane Lowe on DJ show Apple Music 1 about his sixth studio album, Everything I Sort It Was. Regarding the inspiration for the songs included in the album, he said: The beauty of music…music is its own vessel that helps us humans express ourselves.
“Even if you didn’t write it, you found a connection to that emotion and that led me to my first single.
“And when I was writing that song, the moment it happened was 2 a.m., and I just…my friend, who’s also my music director, and who’s probably a friend of the whole family over there. There was Adam Blackstone, and he was doing a little jazz night at a place in LA.
“And he invited me to come down and said, ‘Hey, man.’
“He said, ‘Do you want to come over and sing something?’ So I said, ‘Oh, yeah, let’s have Donny Hathaway cover Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy.'” I did.
“By the way, if you’re a Gen Zer now, you don’t know who I’m talking about.”
Justin went on to talk about the meaning behind “Imagine” songwriter John’s songs. Vulnerable.
“And like I was raised, you were taught not to do that. But I don’t know, it just felt like a very honest song.”
“The lyrics are just starting to come out honestly. And when I listened to the whole album, I felt like out of all the songs on the album, this was probably the simplest in terms of production. Simplicity for me I don’t want to call it simple because there is complexity within it.”
Justin also told Zayn, 50, how he had to handpick 18 of the 100 songs for his album, which will be released in March.
