FOXBOROUGH — Patriots receiver Kayshon Boots is in trouble in Louisiana. Mr. Boot was arrested in Baton Rouge on charges related to illegal online gambling.
Boot turned himself in Thursday and is charged with felony computer fraud and misdemeanor counts of prohibiting persons under 21 from gaming. The charges allege that Boot, who turned 21 last May, created fraudulent online games. The account stated he was over 21 years old so he could legally gamble while still a student at LSU.
He used that account to place nearly 9,000 illegal bets, including six on the LSU football team while a member of the Tigers in 2022.
Louisiana State Police released the following statement regarding the incident:
In July 2023, investigators assigned to the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division were contacted by an online gambling company regarding sports betting by a prohibited person. Investigators say Kayshon Boot, a 21-year-old Baton Rouge resident and former Louisiana State University (LSU) football player, participated in sports betting from April 6, 2022, to May 7, 2023, when he was 20 years old. It turned out that it was. During this period, Mr. Boot used a false name to circumvent the legal age required for sports betting in Louisiana. Between April 6, 2022 and May 7, 2023, the alias account allegedly used by Mr Boutte placed more than 8,900 bets. Of the 8,900 bets, at least 17 were on NCAA football games, and at least six of those were on his LSU football.
On January 18, 2024, an arrest warrant was signed through the 19th Judicial District Court, LRS 14:73.5 – Computer Fraud (Felony – 1 count) and LRS 27:260 – Prohibition of Gaming Under 21 (Misdemeanor – 1 count) Boutte was indicted. count). On January 25, 2024, Boot was booked into the Baton Rouge East Parish Jail on the aforementioned charges. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.

Boot was a standout receiver in his first two seasons at LSU and was considered a potential top draft pick. But struggles during his junior year lowered his stock, and the Patriots selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
He appeared in just five games for the Patriots as a rookie, playing just 117 offensive snaps and finishing the season with just two catches on seven targets for 19 yards.
