Country superstars Morgan Wallen and Eric Church were part of the team that acquired the Field & Stream brand, and in addition to maintaining the website and retail opportunities, they launched a music festival and They also plan to publish a printed version every six months.
Previously, as the venerable print magazine went digital-only, Field & Stream’s assets were split up, with Recurrent owning the brand’s continuing media and Dick’s Sporting Goods taking over the retail side. A group led by Warren and Church will salvage both assets and bring them all back under the same roof, officials announced Thursday.
The first Field & Stream Music Festival is scheduled to be held this fall in collaboration with Southern Entertainment, but details are still to be determined.
Field & Stream Magazine was a touchstone on hundreds of thousands of American coffee tables from its inception in 1895 to the recent turn of the century, maintaining a circulation of more than 1 million copies into the 1990s. After publishing its 125th anniversary issue in 2021, it ceased publication in print less than three years later, at which point it became a digital-only magazine.
“I remember my grandfather keeping some of his favorite Field & Stream magazines on the dashboard of his truck,” Church said in a statement. “That truck took us on hundreds of outdoor adventures, and I pretty much memorized every story and every photo on every page. They were my bible. It is the honor of my life to ensure that tradition continues. This responsibility is also a responsibility to the boy in his father’s truck, the symbol of America and the compass that guides our steps.”
Warren said: “There’s nothing I love more than spending time with friends around a campfire, on a boat, or in a deer stand. Field & Stream represents all of that to me. It’s great to be a part of that future. We want to continue to bring people together outdoors and make memories that last for generations.”
The revamped print edition won’t be on newsstands, but will be shipped twice a year to the Field & Stream 1871 Club, a membership-based community in the making. Colin Kearns, who has been Editor-in-Chief of Field & Stream since 2016, will continue in that role and maintain the editorial team for the digital site and semi-annual print publication.
The revamped brand will be led by Doug McNamee, former president of Magnolia, the media and lifestyle brand co-founded by Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines.
“We are committed to strengthening Field and Stream’s legendary status as the authoritative voice of the American outdoors,” McNamee said in a statement. “We look forward to uniting passionate enthusiasts under one canopy as we steward this trusted brand into a thoughtful and widespread revival. As the newest member of the lineage of stewards, we aim to restore and amplify the authentic voices of Field & Stream, along with our large storytelling family.”
Church and Warren’s participation in the relaunch includes overseeing the apparel collection.
