In an increasingly digital age, more and more people are listening to podcasts to stay informed and entertained.
There are countless podcasts available, one of which is “Life on College Hill,” which helps Rogers State University students navigate college life.
“Life on College Hill,” now in its second season, is the result of RSU Communications students’ efforts to provide helpful tips and practical advice to fellow students about their college experience.
“‘Life on College Hill’ is a primarily student-produced podcast designed to serve the Rogers State community. We always have our students in mind, but… We also have faculty, staff, and people interested in RSU in general in mind,” said Assistant Professor and RSU Radio General Manager Tip Crowley. “We describe this podcast as a ‘by students, for students’ podcast, offering tips for success in college and providing the voices of current students.”
The first episode of the season, titled “How to Make Friends in College” by Abby Molina, focuses on overcoming the challenges of making friends in college and feeling part of the RSU community .
“Students in the podcast production course typically produce an entire season of episodes, with each student producing one episode that is released during the program,” Crowley said. “While the first season had 10 episodes, this season has produced 12 episodes covering a wide range of topics related to college life.”
Episodes from the first season include “The Craving for Cheap College,” “Unbalanced: The Journey of Being a Student,” “Express Yourself: An Overview of the RSU Organization,” and “I Like What I See These included “Why,” “Mind Muscle Connection,” and “Exercise.” Matters of the Heart,” “Non-Traditional Perspectives,” “Faith on the Hill,” and “Hobbies on the Hill.”
Podcasts serve as a resource for new students to learn about campus life, and podcast production also teaches students enrolled in podcast production courses the practical, hands-on aspects of show production.
“This is similar to the experience students get in a production house, where everyone pitches ideas and collaborates to narrow down the subject matter and focus on topics that will be fun, informative, and interesting for RSU students and students.” , the community,” Crowley said. “For students who have studied audio production, this is also an opportunity to acquire advanced audio production skills, and for all students it is also an opportunity to build storytelling techniques and make up stories rather than telling everything straight. Instead of just reading a script to someone, they can use interviews, use natural sounds, sound effects, and all sorts of other things to create a better story.”
Crowley said additional episodes of “Life on College Hill” would “typically” be released every two weeks, with the second season running into the summer term of 2024.
“Life on College Hill” is available on platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, iHeartMedia and RSURadio.com.
