SAGINAW, MI — More than 350 pieces of art by Saginaw Public Schools students will be on display through the end of this week as part of the annual art exhibit at the Andersen Enrichment Center, organizers say.

This show will be the last to be coordinated by Ruth Ann Knapp, a former Saginaw School District educator who has been involved with Andersen Enrichment Center shows for more than 20 years.

“The diversity this year is amazing,” said Knapp, who currently serves on the Saginaw Public Schools Board of Education. “It touches on the different cultures of the community. Some of the (artworks) are historically based, some are ethnically based, and some are geographically based.”

This year’s show theme is “Celebrating Saginaw’s Culture: Building Unity Through Diversity.” It opened earlier this month at 120 Ezra Rust in the center and will close on Friday, January 26th.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, January 25th from 5pm to 7pm, and winners in various categories will be announced.

The winning artwork will be on display at the Andersen Enrichment Center for several more weeks, Knapp said.

The work, created by students in grades 3 to 12, includes paintings, drawings and three-dimensional pieces, she said.

Knapp said she plans to hand over the baton for next year’s show to two coordinators, Rachel Price and Krista Connors, who are elementary school art teachers in the district.

The Andersen Enrichment Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
