Judge reprimands Trump lawyer Alina Haba

From CNN’s Lauren Del Valle, Kara Scannell and Jeremy Herb

Judge Lewis Kaplan again admonished Trump attorney Alina Haba during closing arguments.

In his presentation, Mr. Haba said that E. Jean Carroll’s “bank transfer people are paying my witnesses’ legal fees in a desperate manner that I have never seen before.” Stated. Mr. Haba was referring to witness Carol Martin, a longtime friend of Mr. E. Jean, who testified Thursday. as a hostile witness for the defense.

Mr. Kaplan cut off Mr. Hubba’s remarks at this point, over the objections of Mr. Carroll’s attorney. The judge warned Haba: “Mr. Haba, if you violate my instructions again, you may face serious consequences.”

At the beginning of his argument, Mr. Haba played a clip of President Trump’s video response to the trial court’s ruling, in which Mr. Trump called the lawsuit a witch hunt and repeated denials related to Mr. Carroll. Mr. Haba also said that Mr. Carroll’s claims are not true.

Kaplan admonished her for going along with his client’s denials and instructed the jury to ignore them.

The Haba jury found that Carroll’s article published in The Cut in June 2019, which included her allegation that Trump sexually assaulted her, showed Trump to have been sexually assaulted for about five hours. He said he did not respond because he was “busy running the country.”

As she did during her witness testimony, Ms. Haba detailed the negative social media messages that Ms. Carroll received shortly after the charges were made public.

“This is the beauty and danger of free speech in America. President Trump can no more control the thoughts and feelings of social media users than he can control the weather,” Haba said. .

Haba also recalled showing the jury six threats Carroll had received related to Trump, commenting, “That’s me and President Trump on a good day.”

Kaplan cut her off, saying the comment was inappropriate.
