BBCJennifer Lopez plans to take the popular children’s TV show Bob the Builder to Puerto Rico as “Roberto” in a movie she co-produces.
The announcement comes on the heels of the box office success of another Mattel character, Barbie.
Hamilton star Anthony Ramos will voice Roberto/Bob, whose catchphrase is “Can we fix it? Yes, we can!”
Mattel said the film will “delve deeper into what it means to build” and celebrate the Latin countries of the Caribbean.
Bob the Builder began airing on BBC TV in 1999 and ran for 12 series.
The cheerful construction worker, voiced by Men Behaving Badly and Line of Duty star Neil Morrissey, has also appeared on global channels such as Nick Jr. and PBS Kids.
Zoo actor Lee Ingleby voiced Bob in the UK from 2015 as part of a Channel 5 makeover that replaced stop-motion with computer-generated animation.

Ramos, who is also a co-producer, said he was “proud” to add life elements “inspired by myself.”
He said the film will be “a story about friends working together, celebrating the beautiful home they share, and a film about how love can help overcome the obstacles that come our way.”
Reinventing toys on film
Bob the Builder is just one of the children’s characters being developed for big screen reinvention following the commercial and critical success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie doll.
The film was the highest-grossing film of 2023, received eight Oscar nominations, five BAFTA nominations, and won two Golden Globe Awards.
Toy movies currently in production include Polly Pocket, directed by Lena Dunham and starring Lily Collins. Barney the Dinosaur was produced by Daniel Kaluuya. Will be “adult” and “lean toward millennial anxiety”.
Other Mattel movies in the pipeline include: “Hot Wheels” is produced by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams.Masters of the Universe, Matchbox, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
