President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday celebration at the White House doubled as a high-profile UFC event that also drew recognizable names from the technology world, turning the South Lawn into an unusual mix of politics, sports, and Silicon Valley influence. The event, billed as UFC Freedom 250, was held June 14 on the White House grounds and featured Trump alongside UFC President and CEO Dana White.
Among the tech figures in attendance, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was one of the most visible. He was seen cage-side with White, who also serves on Meta’s board of directors. Trump and Zuckerberg were also seen greeting each other before the event, adding another public moment to the increasingly visible relationship between the president and the Meta chief.
David Ellison, CEO and chairman of Paramount Skydance, was also spotted at the event. His appearance came just after the Justice Department announced it would not challenge Paramount’s $111 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, giving his presence at the White House added attention beyond the UFC card itself.
Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian was another major tech name present on the South Lawn. His appearance stood out because he has not generally been viewed as part of Trump’s orbit and had publicly criticized the administration’s immigration policies earlier this year.
There was also uncertainty around whether Elon Musk attended. He had been described beforehand as expected at the event, but later coverage said it remained unclear whether he actually showed up. That ambiguity left Zuckerberg, Ellison, and Ohanian as the clearest confirmed tech names tied to the gathering.
The event itself was large in scale and symbolism. Trump hosted the fights on the White House lawn with military flyovers and a national anthem ceremony, turning the evening into both a birthday celebration and a major political spectacle. UFC Freedom 250 was also framed around the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, giving the production a broader patriotic overlay beyond Trump’s birthday itself.
For the technology world, the turnout reinforced how Trump’s events are increasingly drawing executives from major platforms and media companies, not just political allies and donors. Zuckerberg’s presence was especially notable given Meta’s size, his role on Trump’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and White’s connection to Meta through the company’s board.
The guest list also highlighted how the boundaries between politics, entertainment, sports, and tech continue to blur. What might once have been viewed as a purely political celebration instead became a stage where high-profile business figures, celebrity athletes, and entertainment executives appeared together in one of the country’s most symbolic public venues.
For now, the clearest takeaway is that Trump’s White House UFC event was not just a sports spectacle. It also became another public gathering point for influential names from technology and media, with Zuckerberg, Ellison, and Ohanian among the most prominent confirmed attendees.
